MAGGIES A HOME AWAY FROM HOME
This research project explores listening as a way of understanding architecture, focusing on how sound shapes emotional experience within healthcare spaces. Set in Maggie’s Centre, Southampton, the film uses observation to reveal how gentle, domestic soundscapes foster comfort, calm, and a sense of belonging. By contrasting these qualities with the overstimulating acoustics of traditional hospitals, the project highlights how attentive listening and aural design can support well-being and encourage a more compassionate, human-centred approach to healthcare architecture.
